Golden Globes 2021 Winners – A few surprises & first-timers

    For the first time ever, the Golden Globes Awards were held in a different way last night. Most presenters and nominees were located in different parts of the world and were all connected to the show through the internet.

    The hosts this year, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted from different parts of the U.S. in the first-ever virtually telecast Golden Globes Awards.  This is Amy and Tina’s fourth time of hosting the show. Tina was in New York while Amy was in Los Angeles.

    Since the year 2020, many films and TV shows were released online on a variety of streamers. As a result, out of the 14 categories, online streamers won 8 Golden Globes.

    Golden Globes 2020: First-Timers

    First Black Woman in 35 years to win the Best Actress award in the drama category.

    Andra Day won for her performance in ‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’. She beat out fellow nominees Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland) and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman).

    First Asian woman to win the Best Director award in the drama category.

    Chloe Zao’s ‘Nomadland’ won Best Motion Picture and Best Director. Chloe became the second Asian after Ang Lee to win Best Director and second female director after Barbra Streisand to win the award.

    A Posthumous Recognition for Chadwick Boseman

    Chadwick Boseman was honored after his death last year with the Best Actor for his performance in ‘MaRainey’s Black Bottom’. His wife received his award and thanked the people her husband would have thanked.
