Trailer: Shamshera – Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt & Vaani Kapoor

June 2022 seems to be Ranbir Kapoor’s month! First, ‘Brahmastra’s trailer released and now ‘Shamshera’s trailer is here. Looks like RK’s draught season is over…for his fans!

‘Shamshera’ too like ‘Brahmastra’ has been in the making for a while now but still not as long as the latter. It appears to be a difficult film to be made but not because its special effects like ‘Brahmastra’ but because Ranbir is playing two characters, father and son, and the film is set in 1871. Everyone looked their part, except the film’s heroine Vaani Kapoor who looked like she just came from another set just for a dance sequence and few minutes of screentime.

Before we go on…

Check out the trailer of ‘Shamshera’, if you haven’t already:

On first look, this movie looks like a better choice for RK to make his comeback. It’s the thing he never really did before, it’s new and let’s hope in the film his character doesn’t leave whatever he’s doing to find himself. But yeah maybe we are comparing it to ‘Brahmastra’ and to us, this one is a movie we can understand which obviously looks better than ‘Brahmastra’.

But…why oh why do they reveal so much in the trailer? No one ever watches these trailers and go: I am so glad they showed everything! Well, yeah we have heard people say they have no interest in watching the film since the whole story is not their cup of tea. People have been complaining and complaining, nothing happens!

The director of this film, Karan Malhotra, also directed ‘Agneepath’ for Dharma Productions which is a story of the son taking revenge for his father’s death which he saw happen in front of his eyes. In ‘Shamshera’ too, Ranbir plays both father and son and eventually in the film he seems to suddenly realize he has to seek revenge. The difference here since he is playing both characters, they decided to make the son funny instead of being serious like his dad.

But yeah, the whole son taking revenge for his strong dad bears a lot of similarities with ‘Baahubali’, just like any period film looks like they are trying to copy SLB films.

Speaking of his dad, that’s Ranbir but for some reason, it’s reminding us so much of Ranveer’s Khilji! Same messy hair and beard! Did men in those days have such long hair? And no shampoo, some more? Doesn’t make sense! How would you know it’s a man or woman judging from their back? What if you call out Behenji and it’s Bhai-saab who turns and looks at you?

The son, also played by RK, looks and behaves a bit like his character in ‘Besharam’. Maybe because they are both mischievous and behave like children. A dance sequence with kids is thrown is to make the whole thing look cute…to kids, obviously. For some reason, we feel daddy RK is going to much better received than sonny RK in the film.

You remember the blind items that mentioned how Mr.India aka Aditya Chopra insisted on having his mentee (it’s what they call it these days) Vaani Kapoor in every big film of his. The only actor he failed to persuade was Aamir Khan in ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ because he wanted his own mentee(yes, that’s what they have been calling it these days) in it.

Vaani is like the Katrina Kaif from TOH, just waltzed in for a dance, be a love interest and do a love song, and have a couple of smart lines to impress the leading man and then boom!!! Off she goes to another set. What were they thinking for her character? She doesn’t look like she belongs to that time. Unless she has a surprise waiting for us in the film but only time will tell.

Sanju Baba is also in this film, also known as Sanjay Dutt. The same Sanju who conquered lung cancer, which is a pretty big deal! He’s actually more active now since he announced his recovery, doing the same kind of roles. He was recently in KGF Part2.

In case you forgot…RK played Sanju in his lightly-browsed-and-touched biopic titled ‘Sanju’…he even won the Best Actor award for it!

And now onto the fun part…

Ranbir Kapoor did not appear fully in front of the media for a long time now so there was a empty space for verbal diarrhea conversations, which seem to be his forte. Now that he is back and will be in front of the media for a while now since he has to promote two films, expect a lot of WTF statements. Nothing new coming from RK!

From comparing his love for Alia as Sherbet, you know cause Aloo was Jesus then who turned water into Sherbet just for Raymond…and after years, now he’s saying this:

It might sound as an insult as he’s, in a way, saying Aloo is normal and basic but actually he has a point. He had his time dating hot and happenin’ girls (the ones he thought were hot) and it didn’t work out and those relationships came to bite him and his family in their behinds in a big way! Yeah so they were his ‘tangdi kebab’ and Aloo is his ‘dal chawal’! Strangely, ‘tangdi’ is the word Katrina tried to pronounce in ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Since their wedding both RK and Aloo have been away from each other shooting so it seems she gives him his space.

Get ready for more of these headlines in the coming days and weeks…Until he starts promoting with Aloo and…

‘Shamshera’ will be released in theaters on July 22 and will be available on OTT sometime after…it all depends how the film does at the box office.

Alright, so let’s got for two different kinds of votes this time.

Brahmastra V/S Shamshera
