Do you remember the tragic ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’? It wasn’t a tragic film, per say. Just a film that went wrong in so many ways. The reason it worked mainly is because it was Yash Chopra’s last film. It was the film that Shah Rukh Khan decided to break his no-kissing clause in with Katrina Kaif. Anushka Sharma was her usual hippie/high self in the film. The story was alright, but somehow we felt it would have done better if another actress was cast in Katrina’s role; someone who was much more senior and mature as an actress.
So, the trailer of ‘Zero’ released today on Shah Rukh’s birthday. As you know, it was one of the most anticipated trailers of 2018 right behind ‘2.0’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ – the Hindi/Bhojpuri remake’. Since earlier this week, Bollywood journalists and celebrities have been tweeting that they got to see the trailer of ‘Zero’ and were blown away. There were rumours that Shah Rukh was playing an alien in this film, but clearly that is not the case based on the trailer.

Do you like the trailer of Zero?
Basically, Shah Rukh plays a dwarf who is looking for a girl to get married to. He finds Anushka and had no idea that she is physically-challenged. She falls in love in him and then gets dumped at the altar. In the meantime, Shah Rukh meets Katrina and gets a taste of stardom and fame. He then gets dumped by Kat and returns back to find Anushka. Shah Rukh and Anushka have shot at NASA and there’s a rocket launch also at the end of this trailer, so maybe Anu got a job there and he went to find her. That background track playing through SRK and Anu’s screentime is really beautiful. It looks like the VFX in this film was used on mostly Shah Rukh’s character. A lot of minizing had to be done so that he looks proportionally like a dwarf.
Point is, it is the same sappy-soapy love story that Shah Rukh has been doing for ages. The only difference is, he is a dwarf in the film and Anushka is on a wheelchair. But, why did he need to be a dwarf? The alien-part made sense, but if he is not an alien, why the dwarf then? Is he trying to find the characters that he hasn’t essayed yet in a love story? And, after that disastrous ‘Jab Harry Met Sally Sejal’ SRK and Anu should have taken a break and let the audience recover. Coming back this soon is a bit too much. As you know, Shah Rukh knew very well that he needed top actresses alongside him to make this film work.
In his career, he has played an army officer (Army, MHN & JTHJ), an obsessed guy (Darr), revenge guy (Baazigar), college guy (KKHH), drama guy (DTPH), tour guide (JHMS), older unmarried guy (CE), guy with Kebab-Jo’s-attempt-at-serious-cinema disease (MNIK), poor guy then reborn into rich actor guy (OSO), guy with heart problem (KHNH), alcoholic jilted lover/guy (Devdas) and many more. So yes, this will be his first-time playing a dwarf! He also has not played an alien yet or an overweight guy.

The trailer is better than the teaser and you don’t really feel he is a dwarf unless he mentions or it is a long shot of him with other people. And….For once or perhaps the first time, Katrina Kaif outshines everyone else in this trailer! That’s quite something. What an entry and introduction to her character! It is definitely because her character is quite close to what she is in real life, minus the alcoholic part – unless that’s what happened to her when she broke up with Raymond. It will be interesting to see how she acts in the film because she won’t be in small bits like in the trailer. Let’s see if she can hold it up. Congrats, Kat. You finally arrived with a bang!
Wait a minute! This got us thinking: What if that “breaking up with Raymond and curse get lifted” thing is real? Remember how it worked wonders for Deepika? Will it be the same for Kat now? Something to think about.
Oh and she gets to chumma chatti again with Shah Rukh. Damn, who would have thought that the king of romance Shah Rukh Khan would now be doing this in almost all of his films since JTHJ?

Can’t really explain what happened to Shah Rukh, though. Have you seen ‘Mr & Mrs Khiladi (1997)? There was this scene in it, we watched this film only once and yet only this scene stayed with us:
At the Trailer Launch of Zero:
The most interesting part happened at the trailer launch where Shah Rukh was asked a couple of questions. Now if you are familiar with Shah Rukh, he has this very smart way of praising everyone, who works with him especially his heroines; like over the top praises. First of all, the trailer launch event was such a grand one, almost like a wedding function. Deepika and Ranveer should have just used the same venue and props after SRK was done with it. Then Katrina and Anushka would be compelled to attend!
No, but seriously it was filled with enough entertainment for anyone who attended the launch. There was food stalls and other fun activities. Quite a lot of money was spent on it. Hopefully, it’s not to make everyone say it’s an amazing trailer.
So, this happened at the trailer: The smartypants journalist who asked SRK about Priyanka’s engagement at that show was probably at this launch since this questions was asked:
Ranveer, Deepika and your close friends, Priyanka is getting married.
He could have given a diplomatic response by congratulating PC, but instead he went on a rant and tried to make it look like he was saying something funny. The fact that the media keeps asking him about PC says something! They ain’t scared of pissing him off anymore! PC would be really happy to see how questions about her got him rattled. Seriously, SRK should just give it a normal answer and be done with it! How hard is it to say, “Congrats”? As long as PC will keep on doing things, the media will keep on asking SRK about it and we will keep writing about it! Cycle of life! But you know what it is? Shah Rukh has a big ego and he is still mad that PC outed him the way she did: on an international level! Like he knows she is doing all this in front of the world to see to piss him off.
By the way, wouldn’t Rajpal Yadav be so endearing in this film? Like, if it was made years ago when he was happening. Now he has pretty much disappeared and he also got in legal troubles. But, he is a great actor and in no way appears creepy.
