The Mukherjees: Rani Mukherjee, Kajol, Tanuja, Tanisha & Ayan Mukherjee

The Mukherjee family has been around in Bollywood for a long time now. Rani Mukherjee and Kajol are in Bollywood because of their respective parents. Originating from Bengal, their parents have been working in the film industry even before these two were born. Rani’s dad was a director and her mum was a playback singer. Kajol’s father was a director and producer while her mum was an actress. Today, both Kajol and Rani are two of the most successful actress in Bollywood. With their normal or average looks, Rani and Kajol are India’s best actresses onscreen.

Shomu Mukherjee, Tanuja, Kajol & Tanisha

 

Shomu Mukherjee was a film director and producer. He passed away in 2008 behind his wife Tanuja and two daughters Kajol and Tanisha. Tanuja acted in both Hindi and Bengali films.

Following her mother’s footsteps, Kajol too decided to join the film industry at the age of 18. It took some time for Kajol to be noticed as a great actress and with hit films like ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’; she became the favourite actress of many people. Even today, these very same people eager await the release of her films.

Kajol got married to another actor Ajay Devgan. They have two children, a girl, Nysa and a boy, Yug. Kajol’s sister Tanisha too joined the film industry though she couldn’t really secure a place for herself. Tanisha was engaged to Uday Chopra.

 

Ram Mukherjee, Rani Mukherjee & Raja Mukherjee

Rani Mukherjee’s father Ram Mukherjee was a film director and he was also one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios. Ram Mukherjee, Rani’s brother, also works in the film industry as a producer and director. Rani Mukherjee/Mukherji made her debut in Bollywood at the age of 19. Though she was only noticed several years later in ‘Ghulam’ and in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. In ‘Ghulam’, she was paired opposite Aamir Khan and in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, she was paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She has achieved all that there is as far as acting skills are concerned. She acted in ‘Black’, a film that changed her whole career and a film that changed the way the audience saw her.

 

Rani was rumoured to be with Govinda, the actor, at one point of her life. Though everyone thought she was with Abhishek Bachchan, it turned out Rani was in fact seeing Aditya Chopra, who divorced his wife to be with Rani.

Ayan Mukherjee

Ayan Mukherjee/Mukherji joined the film industry in 2004. Ayan is the cousin of Rani Mukherjee and Kajol. He first started out as an assistant on the sets of ‘Swades’, which was directed by his brother-in-law Ashutosh Gowariker. He also assisted Karan Johar on the sets of ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. He took some time to write the screenplay of ‘Wake Up Sid’ expecting Karan to direct the film, Karan thought that this should be Ayan’s directorial debut.
