Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy Trailer is here!

A first of its kind in India (maybe?), ‘Gully Boy’ is about a boy from a gali who wants to be a rap star. Speaking of rap stars, how come rappers in Bollywood are punjabi or they rap in punjabi? Right? Honey, Badshah and the other guys, they rap in punjabi. Remember Panjabi MC?

Rap music, western rap music, has never been something we enjoyed. You all know why, it’s quite evident based on the lyrics. It’s like all they got to rap about is how rich they are, what expensive car they own and how many women they are getting or how many people they have shot.

Anyways, moving on…

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's Gully Boy Trailer is here!

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt star in this Zoya Akhtar directed film, which will be releasing on Valentine’s Day this year but before that it will make its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The trailer looks good and the story itself sounds interesting, something new. Plus, add Vijay Raaz and Kalki Koechlin to that, ‘Gully Boy’ gets even more interesting. Who can forget Vijay’s epic crow briyani scene from ‘Run’?

Ranveer is probably the only happening hero from this generation of actors, who can do a variety of roles. In this one too, he gets in the character and he becomes the character. Alia is a good actress, she has so much potential. Don’t know why she feels the need to get entangled in PR-matters. It will ruin her if her career does not go well!

Zoya Akhtar has brought something different to the table every time with her films. Can’t wait to see what she has done with ‘Gully Boy’. Whatever the story is, her films are always a nice watch.

Here’s the trailer of ‘Gully Boy’ starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.

So, what do you think?

I didnt like the trailer, RK’s rockstar was much better.. Why does this movie seem like that? Joya and Frhan are nepo kids too and have contacts,so featuring movie in Berlin FF might be through contacts

There are rappers in almost all indian languages, but only the hindi and punjabi ones are featured in bollywood , till now

Independent music industry is pretty small in India. Bulk of music comes from bollywood and whatever pop music we hear is mostly Punjabi. Even bollywood songs have a heavy punjabi influence. I just want our music industry to stand on its feet and make diverse music instead of depending on bw for publicity. Singers never get the same fame as actors these days. Gone are the days of lata mangeshkar, mohammed Rafi etc…

  3. NewGirl says:

Ranveer looks good after the horrible Simmbaa but Alia stole the show.

    Mar Jayega tu. she’s adorable.

Even if it’s a rip off of 8 mile why is that a bad thing?i would watch a nicely done remake rather than a badly made β€œpure original β€œ ,if such a term exists.Making hip hop a mainstream thing will help these musicians a lot.I never heard rap except for broda v who is from Karnataka.it was only because of ranveer and zoya I heard music of these Mumbai underground rappers.i didn’t even know that there is a huge dharavi underground hip hop/rap scene. And like me a lot of people think of Indian rap as Punjabi songs about cars and girls and booze.i hope the film works so that it puts a spotlight on these amazing musicians.

@lucy if the makers are giving credit to the makers of the original or are saying they are inspired by it there is nothing wrong but when you claim that a multiple scenes from 8 miles are from your story board not the hw version that is just in bad taste.

rap/hip hop is never about girls/cars etc that is how bw interprets how Punjabi music is and the only way public loves to consume it.

How do you know multiple scenes from Gully Boy are copied from 8 Mile? The movie hasn’t released yet. So, just curious.

i agree. other sites like pinkvilla have so much negativity, click-baity headlines, misogyny, unecessarily vicious trolling (i suspect @Fact is a regular poster there, i have never seen him/her post anything remotely positive here and the amount of hatred h/she holds for deepika and kangana is truly astonishing…)

PS has anyone else noticed a reduction in pinkvilla activity? i lost the app and cant download it anymore (says its unavailable outside india). and the website really sucks its very hard to navigate…i mean its fine…just means i’m relying a lot more on OSOP Admin to keep me updated on bolly gossip πŸ™‚

My 2 cents on so called Admin’s bias!

No comment EVER gets moderated or stopped frm being posted! I too posted how I found Deepika below average in Padmavat n actually quite bad; n it was posted!
On other side, yes, i do recall a blind abt RS impregnating a junior staff during the off period wt DP. So yeah, no one is saint here!

PS: RS is still 100 times better than Raymond!

The movie is inspired from the lives of two rappers Divine and Naezy who are from Dharavi.. Zoya already said that the movie is inspired from their struggle.. Admin and other people talking about the 8 Mile should check out the life these two rappers and other small upcoming rappers from Dbaravi. The underground rap scene is huge in Dharavi. The life story of Divine is truly a rags to riches story..

Zoya said Gully Boy is a work of fiction but she worked with Divine and Naezy to give authenticity to the music. As of now, the scenes they showed in the trailer seem straight up copy of 8 Mile.

      • LondonThumakda says:

how yaar? besides the fact they both wear a hoodie and everyone in the audience waves their hands up and down …you do realise a lot of rap / hip-hop stars sort of look and sound the same..

i remember watching 8 mile it was an extremely grim and depressing film i felt like only hardcore eminem fans are going to enjoy this. at least two differences i can make out straightaway : eminem’s mom was a real disaster – alcoholic, drug addict, she was constantly letting him down…here the guy’s mom seems a positive influence. the bits with alia lightened up the tone of the trailer A LOT.

lets at least wait and see how gully boy turns out. dharavi aint detroit. and americans don’t have a copyright on rags-to-riches stories.

bradley cooper just directed the fourth version of “a star is born” – done to death story and yet it got amazing appreciation all around. sometimes a story that’s been told before can be told in a completely fresh way. i have faith in Zoya so far none of her films have been boring or cliched. so lets give her a chance. kyu bhai?

Look toh wasn’t a total ripoff of poc but was heavily inspirer from it , bahubali has scenes inspired from hw, barfi scenes were inspired from silent movies, 3 idiots has scenes inspired from adds all of them had different stories from the hw movies. Hip hop seems same ? Than go see movie on taupac. The story of gb may notbe a rip off of 8 Miles but scenes definitely are inspired

This is a blind/semi gossip site, admin can do what they wish and commenters can stay or leave. I don’t see a major bias, compared to sites like pv that filters all their comments and steals news bites from other people’s articles and interviews for their articles without giving credit.
Anyway gully boy looks great, ranveer is very talented and versatile and is the energy the industry needs. Hope they focus more on the music and less on a romance, ddd had a really unnecessary romance angle which took away from the story.

Admins favourite is Deepika, RS now is her husband, so should be respected and championed. If RS was dumped by DP then you would have seen a series of attacks on him regarding his earlier blinds on getting Junior Staff pregnant etc, he would have been Meetoed by the Deepika fans including Admin.

Just check his tharki comments on Raveena in many interviews or his heavy handed back beating of Sara Ali khan in the interviews where it is clear as day that she is just enduring the assault labelled as Joke. Any other male star would have been vilified for this atrocious behaviour.

Her second favourite is Kangana, that is why even when a negative blind came up today, the admin tried to write positive preface and threw a woman card backed by Rani who Admin was vilifying just 2 days back LOL

Ranveer is my favourite mainstream actor at the moment but totally agree with you on this – his behaviour during the Simmba proportions was despicable. If it was anybody else Admin would call them out and write sermons here, maybe provide links to dozens of interview where he kept hitting her but no; all is fair when RS-DP are involved.

@admin well 8 mile came in 2002 and it was lousily based on the life of Eminem. even if you have not seen the movie which btw won Eminem an Oscar for his song Lose Yourself which was a song not a rap. you dont need to see the movie to notice the similarity you can see that even in the trailer of 8 mile. Story might be more Indian audience oriented because it is the tale of Indian rapper but the scenes are too similar for which zoya is responsible.

anyway for anyone interested in American hip hop/rap do look up tupac shakur

Listen, you can think and say whatever you want, it’s fine. But there is a difference between giving an opinion and making accusations. We don’t have time to keep up, we are too busy trying to work hard to make money to finance the dozens of things we support. If OSOP was our bread and butter, we would have been like other sites constantly running gossips 24/7 but fortunately, that’s not the case. If you don’t like what you read, don’t read it. Simple! We don’t want anyone to feel forced like someone has kidnapped them and forcing them to read OSOP. That is not what this website is about. We have said it many times, we do what we can when we can. We are not here to live up to anyone’s expectations! Bless you all, have a nice day! Ro all those who have been here long enough, thank you for your support and good wishes. Hope you don’t feel like you are being held hostage πŸ™‚

@fact Why wud DP dump RS ? Just becoz RS is vocal about DP does not mean that DP did a favor by marrying him. He is far more wealthier, educated and turned out to be much more money spinner at BO , stole the thunder from his co actors in Padmaavat , Stood with her trough her depression(in a country where mental illness is looked down upon).

If she wud have dumped him i wud seriously doubt her already not so great intelligence . She is a big star like any actress who were in their prime in the past…and the time is ticking. I do not see her being offered movies with Ranveer let alone any of his contemporaries at the moment.

@Admin no way in hell i’m going to stop visiting this site. the thing abt accusing and negativity to u is beacuse this site is PERFECT!!! u r great in ur work. u post blinds by others . u dont make up anything. if u r not sure abt blind’s credibility, u say that beforehand .u give reasons for ur guesses. u interact with readers and clarify things. and most predominantly ur preface to all blinds , ur opinions and explaining things in everyone’s pov is OSM!!! i started visting here only bcoz of ur witty n funny writing. u r one helluva writer!! this site is damn good. see thats the thing. how can be everything is good? ppl start thinking its too good to be true . thats why when u slip up somewhere slightly, ppl (like me) are like haaaaaa…there i found it and pointing it out like a big mistake. i know its petty to act that way, but coulnt be helped sometimes πŸ˜›
hoenstly, this site is much better. In PV , ppl r made to beg (pls post) r threaten( dare u not post it) to just get their comments posted. here u have given complete freedom to express all our views. as u said , it is ur site and it seems wrong to blame u on ur own site. so sorry for adding burden to u along with ur work :p
keep up with ur great work!!
ps: intially u used to answer more kind and diplomatic to negative posters. now reply seems u r frustrated with constant badgering of accusations and its wearing down ur patience . if thats the case, chill out yaar. take it easy. Admin you have to give hip hop another try not all of it is about fast cars, gold teeth and boobs, try some run dmc, early jay z (hard knock life, the blueprint), lauryn hill, outkast…it can also be about powerful social commentary – the kind you hardly ever find in pop or rock anymore…

Good suggestions, thanks :-). Lauryn is a legend, but she is more R&B than fully rap. Sad that Cardi B is the one who broke Lauryn’s record. I completely agree to the Admin’s criticism by different folks here. The bais is simply obvious for RS n Deepika. Admin can criticise PC calling her marriage a sham. Katrina is constant target.. All kinds of negativity is propogated against SSR (just because of Ranveer’s sketchy relationship with him). Now Ranveer’s obnoxious behaviour with Sara is just ignored.
Also, when the users express themselves against it all the admin can come up with is “If you don’t like what you read, don’t read it”. If you want people to always praise you, clearly you choose something wrong to do.
