Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan Turns 66 – Her Life, Family, Best Performances, Co-Stars & More

Born in Kolkata in 1948, Jaya Bhaduri went on to become one of India’s finest actresses. The actress started out in the film industry really young when she was handpicked by renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray while she was studying at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

Jaya Bhaduri is more famously known today as the wife of India’s superstar Amitabh Bachchan. But there are still many, who remember how big of a star and a great actress she once was during her prime on the big screen. Learn more about the Bachchan family right HERE.

During her time as a lead heroine in commercial and offbeat cinema, Jaya experienced a successful career; an achievement that actresses even today want to have. She collaborated with the finest directors, including Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Gulzar, Ramesh Sippy and Prakash Mehra.

Jaya Bhaduri was a favourite of director Hrishikesh Mukherjee and actor Sanjeev Kumar. She was in most of their films before she got married. Jaya Bhaduri and Sanjeev Kumar’s pairing was more than the pairings of actors Kajol-Shah Rukh Khan or Anil Kapoor-Sridevi or Anil Kapoor-Madhuri Dixit. It was more because in their films together, Jaya got to play his wife in ‘Koshish’ and daughter in ‘Parichay’ – these films were released in the same year.

Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan acted in several memorable films together, including ‘Zanjeer’ (1973), ‘Abhimaan’ (1973), Mili (1975), Chupke Chupke (1975), Sholay (1975) and Silsila (1981). They tied the knot on June 3, 1973.

Jaya Bachchan has also acted in several recent popular films, which include the ever so popular ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ opposite actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Preity Zinta.
