Blind Item – May 2018 3

The blind item below is about a certain situation recently that took many by surprise. Well, to be fair, not as surprised as this young actor must have been when he read the news. But if you know Bollywood and its funny ways, you will not be surprised. Every indie or small-time director does this, they take on unknown actors and make a couple of low budget films with them. As soon as they get a position in the industry where stars have started noticing their presence, they move on to the stars. It’s pretty normal behaviour.

Who would have thought that someone like Anurag Kashyap would get Ranbir Kapoor to work with him? Or Imtiaz Ali would get Shah Rukh Khan to do a film for him? Or for that matter, Rohit Shetty get Shah Rukh Khan twice in two films? Who else? Who would have thought Kaizad Gustad would get Amitabh Bachchan? Who would have thought Anurag Basu would get Hrithik Roshan in a film? Who would have thought Vishal Bhardwaj would get to work with Shahid Kapoor. Or Vikas Bahl working with Shahid Kapoor.

Truth is, these small films directors might say they despise these commercial stars and commercial films, but once they get a taste of wanting to get bigger with bigger stars, they jump at the opportunity. Sadly though, these big ventures fall harder than the struggles these directors had to go through to make it with their small art films. Vikas, Imtiaz, Rohit, Anurag B and Anurag K all went hit the ground so hard that it took them longer to get back up.

The blind item below is by Rajeev Masand and it speaks of the same situation. We have never seen any films of this director, but based on his films’ reviews, it does seen that his newly-signed stars and him are like three birds of the same feather. It’s sad that this young actor is no longer part of this director’s work, but he just has to wait and see how this film will do at the box office. In the meantime, check out the blind item below. Have to say though, this young actor sort of copies the star that his fave director is working with. Was he trying to be him so that the director doesn’t leave him or is it a genuine copycat thing like Tiger and Hrithik?

No Reward for Loyalty

A young actor whose fortunes turned recently when his film did big box-office numbers is enjoying his moment in the sun with a clutch of new endorsements, travel opportunities and being stalked by the paparazzi. But turns out he’s heart- broken over the fact that his mentor has chosen a big star over him for his next project. The youngster was always aware that the filmmaker had been courting the heartthrob actor, and he’d even joked about it with the director. “Don’t forget where your loyalties lie,” he’d frequently tell him. But the reality of it only hit him once the choice was given a stamp of formality. Sources say he’s especially disappointed that there was no role for him in the new movie after having worked with the director on multiple projects.

It’s not like the actor doesn’t have other work. According to industry pundits, he’s inundated with small and medium-budget film offers, a handful from good banners too, but he’s treading slowly and surely. When asked publicly, he says he’s happy for his mentor at having landed the star, but still likes to joke that there’s no reward for loyalty in Bollywood.
