Blind Item – February 2018 8

Today’s first blind item comes from Rajeev Masand. It’s about something you might or might not know. Truth to be told, we have never heard about this project before, so this blind item comes as a surprise. We know this director, though. He’s Mr. Bhavesh Joshi’s favourite director and the director took the massive responsibility to launch this star kid. So much so, that the kid gets to call the prominent director by his last name! Can you believe it? Do you think a non-star kid would dare to call this director by his last name? Without any Mr or Sir first? That’s the advantage of being a star kid!

Check out the blind item below from Rajeev Masand.

    The Desperate Filmmaker

Insiders who’ve watched the latest (and as-yet-unreleased) film helmed by a prominent Bollywood director have been moaning about the fact that it’s nothing short of a blatant exercise in ‘sucking up’. Sources reveal that the film ‘shamelessly’ panders to one of the Prime Minister’s beloved campaigns and that it’s about as subtle as a sledgehammer.

Industry folk are especially surprised given that at least two films have already been made on the same theme, and that the filmmaker is a senior gentleman who exercises considerable clout and isn’t wont to political pandering.

More than anything else, they’re saying the film ‘lacks objectivity’ in its attempt to latch onto the said social campaign. It’s hardly a wonder that the filmmaker is having trouble with distribution. Word on the street is that he tried hard to have the movie join international film festivals too, but with no luck. Now he has reportedly approached the Government itself for some sort of political endorsement that might give the film some heft.

Such a shame. We’re talking about a respected filmmaker whose breakout hit, a little over a decade ago, made him one of Hindi cinema’s most interesting talents. But save for a hit sports biopic, he hasn’t been able to recreate that kind of success in the years since.

    1. What irked me was the first news piece in the Masand’s article. “Sanju” hasn’t even been released, and yet Ranbir is already pitched as competing with Ranveer for this year’s awards. The real arrogance with which Ranbir is constantly pushed is irritating and galling.
Make no mistake, I loved him in Rockstar – but the amount he is promoted (much like Alia as the next “Shabana Azmi”) is extremely irksome.
I’m not sure why anyone would want to see a biopic of Sanjay Dutt, and as much as I liked Hirani’s first Munna Bhai, I really hope this movie flops and brings people down to earth.

      1. I think Dutt movie will not live up to the hype. There were some news Raju was unhappy with some scenes and will be re-shooting, hat was the reason the release date was pushed back to June 2018. Now they have wrapped up the movie after re-shooting so let’s wait and see.

The Kapoor scion was born with the acting genes so even without watching the movie these critics know he will be fabulous. It is only the actor with no filmi family name that need to prove his acting capababilities over and over again. (Even though he had given superlative performances in the past, One mediocre performance by him and he has to prove himself all over again unlike the Kapoor scion). So much bias and favouritism for star kids and nepo kids.

    2. I haven’t heard of the film at all… Why Saiyyami Kher again? If mirziya wasn’t enough… The plot looks boring and they is no star power…

Admin, Which film journalists are in form these days? I am unable to trust any of these film journalists with their posts and reviews… They do lot of PR for the stars and most of their reviews are predictable…
